a wearisome read -
half a story, that's
all I need
to slap paperback shut
wonder once more:
"What is a literary prize
given for?"

So convinced am I
that all is good
in the world of poetics
and that a "Best of ..."
would
move, inspire, touch
and please -
it's as if these poems
are written in legalese.
When all I feel is
that gremlin Self Doubt
I close the collection
and chuck it out.
