Poem-A-Day November 2

prompt: together again

On Being With My Only Niece

The taxi driver made the distance
seem further than it really was.
How long since we last met?

The cafe you chose made lunches
that whetted the appetite.
We fed each other family stories.

On the way back to Northbridge
I stopped walking to greet
first custodians of this land.

They were represented by a plaque.
The gardens were blooming
with introduced species.

Our photo on Facebook shows
your radiance, my half-toothless gums.
We will cross the country again.
